Capsule Wardrobe 101: Minimalism, Slow Fashion and All

building a capsule wardrobe from scratch

Fewer clothes; more outfits.

In the midst of shopping addictions and fast fashion items, creating a style based on simple yet stylish clothes is the way to create a minimalist capsule wardrobe. If you don't know the steps, you are in the right place to learn about the process.

The first step is to declutter and get rid of the clothing pieces that you haven't worn for a period of time but keep them for just-in-case situations. Believe me, you have had them for years and haven't worn them a single day. Been there and done that, stop being dramatic and obsessive, get rid of them.

As you declutter, you may start wondering how you will deal with these items: put them in the trash, donate to those in need, or just let them rot there. And I know once you start decluttering your wardrobe, everything falls apart and you find your love letters, high school memories, and childhood pictures and you distract yourself from the closet, but please don't.

Okay, assuming that you are done with the decluttering, as you begin building your wardrobe you have to make sure you have the core items to rotate and put together accordingly because in fewer clothes, we are creating more outfits with higher quality. If you have the core pieces of clothing, you know what colors are your favorite, our job is a piece of cake. If your style has changed or you need some core items to purchase, buy higher quality items so that you can wear them for years and maintain a minimalist but stylish wardrobe.

Imagine a closet filled with only the items that you love to wear, mix and match, and effortlessly style. That's what we are going to have at the end of the process.

By organizing your clothes based on their colors, type, texture, and seasons, you will categorize your clothes and have a clear idea of what to wear and what to store for the next season. Everything is just that simple. Just make sure the colors match, you feel comfortable, you know the quality and you don't feel overwhelmed by looking at your closet trying to find a piece.

Hope this little blog helps you on your way to building your wardrobe because I know how hard it is to get rid of stuff that you feel emotionally connected to. Believe me, it's not good for you, neither for your bucket nor wardrobe. Break the pattern, and get rid of those items that you don't really need. You can use this motto anytime and everywhere. No pun intended.

As we finish, let's include some inspo for fall fashion, and enjoy having a minimalist but fabulous wardrobe. xoxo!
