Is Harry Potter for Kids or Adults?
The question of who Harry Potter appeals to is clarified.
It is debatable whether the Harry Potter series is for children or adults. There is a change in tone since the third book and movie of the series, and the series takes on a dark tone with the fourth movie.
This situation should not cause controversy. A story with dementors roaming the school corridors, a story with the Triwizard Tournament with serious injuries and even deaths, and a situation that goes beyond children. Isn't that enough?
There's also the return of the universe's darkest wizard and the terrorizing of his followers known as Death Eaters. He is such a wizard that people are afraid to mention his name. A wizard who aims for immortality by dividing his soul into 7 pieces and imprisoning them in various objects is making moves to kill an 11-year-old boy.
There are also unforgivable curses. The kind of spells that dark wizards love to use. There are 3 of them. They take control of people completely and make them do anything. A curse that tortures people and another curse that kills them instantly. And we witness these moments in the series.
At the end of the series, many wizards lose their lives when the Dark Lord gathers his army and declares war on Hogwarts. The school is falling apart. Giant spiders and dementors are invading. Death and chaos dominate the war.
Even though Harry Potter was victorious at the end of the war, the pain and destruction left tragic moments for both the heroes and the readers/viewers.
So I ask again, is Harry Potter really a series suitable for kids? Each series, in which we witness the development of a child, has its own dynamics and takes on a mature atmosphere when it reflects the dark sides of the universe within it.
