It's A Goal!!
A game that lives in the hearts of people and has spectators worldwide. It's the most watched sport and has highest tv broadcast rights!
Football, the world’s most-watched and popular game is known to even little children around us. You might’ve noticed them playing in the streets with a black and white ball and passing it to one another. It's the game that brings a thrill, excitement, competition, and unity amongst the audience. It wouldn’t be wrong either to relate this sport with patriotism. So many peers in the thousand-people crowd are emotionally attached to the game and energetically cheer the players, who are on the ground to represent their country.
Football has more international attention unlike other sports games like cricket, hockey, basketball, tennis, olympics and gymnastics.
Football, better known as soccer in the US and Canada, is the most popular sport in the world, with an estimated following of 4 billion fans. This fact is more nicrly explained in the graph below
But why is it so famous?
This is because it's a sport that can be played in any physical condition regardless of whether it's snowing or raining. Furthermore, players learn unity, coordination, and teamwork for one another. They fight together for a single cause till the last minute. Have you ever gotten appreciation from your teacher? How beautifully does that encourage you to perform better! Similarly in football, a pat from the coach builds confidence and higher self-esteem in players. They also learn to respect their opponents, officials, and instructors whether it's a triumph or not. This is called sportsmanship!
Clubs!
It's the game where club Culture is more dominant as compared to matches in-between countries. Clubs are worshipped in football because there are more club matches per year than International matches. These clubs power up hidden talents from less-known nations and give them opportunities to play on competitive platforms. Big names like Christian Ronaldo, Leo Messi, Gareth bale, Ryan Giggs have risen to high prominence mainly because of their well-recognized clubs. They wouldn't have gained much fame if they only played for their mother countries because their national teams aren't as strong as their clubs. Liverpool, Manchester United, Juventus, Borussia Dortmund, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Paris SG are the renowned clubs whose incredible fanbase would travel anywhere to support their team.
Who actually invented this game?
There are biased claims over this question.
It is claimed that football originated in 2500 BC when Egyptians, greeks, and Chinese played a game involving a ball and feet. The Chinese game Tsu Chu is quite alike to the modern-day football game. However, some claim that it was invented in England in the 19th Century when rival squads played against each other. It was known as 'folk football' at that time.
Where is the ball made?
A country known for cricket recognition is the home producer for the footballs with which big teams play. Not many know that footballs used in Fifa World Cup 2018 were imported from Pakistan. About 40 million soccer balls are produced in the city of Sialkot, Pakistan, annually.
High wages of players:
With modernization and advancements, the wages of players have rapidly increased from the late 20th century. Top notched players offer better skills, services, bring more wins, fans, ticket sales, and profit. The rights for the first seasons of the Premier League in 1992-97 were sold for less than £200 million. The TV rights for 2016-19 are in comparison worth more than £5 billion. For example, e.g. Cristiano Ronaldo is paid 18M Euros annually but he brings an estimated 50M-100M Euros per year through fans, merchandise sales, his impact on the field.
The most recent transfer record was set by Neymar from Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain for €222 million in August 2017.
