The Revolutionization of Reading
Books have always been published and purchased in a certain way; but thanks to the interenet, books have gone through a lot of change.
For as long as anyone can remember, books have always been published and purchased in a certain way; after a thorough vetting process, they would be picked up by a publishing house, physical copies would be distributed to book stores, and would be bought by costumers. However, due to the internet and the connectivity it has provided, books nowadays can be accessed in many different ways, not to mention traditional publication is no longer a necessity to reach an audience.
Nowadays, books can be published in a myriad of ways, which allows for wider distribution and accessibility. For instance, E-books have now taken the lead in reading, and the positive impact it has is that it is more affordable, therefore, allows for more people to get their hands on the material, not to mention, it is an environmentally conscious way for publishing books without wasting paper.
More to the point, not only have books become more accessible by the public through affordability and environmental consciousness, however, a path was paved for the differently-abled through publications of books in the forms of Audiobooks. Even those who were unable to physically read books can now experience the pleasure of reading through narration.
Reading books is no longer limited to official publications, with the rise of self-publication platforms, such as Wattpad, on which writers self-publish stories in every genre imaginable, and Archive Of Our Own, which is a platform dedicated to fan fiction, stories, and alternative endings for pre-existing characters from movies and tv-shows. These platforms allowed for anyone to read and write in any genre they might like, and eventually, it formed a community in which readers and writers collaborate and grow.
Ultimately, reading in the modern age has reached a state of constant growth and change. It is always shifting and adapting in order to include everyone who wishes to live for stories and expand their knowledge.
