Winds of Change at Apple: Part 1
Is a new phase at the door of Apple?
Recently, Apple held the highly anticipated WWDC24 event, known as the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference. This event, which lasts approximately 2 hours, is pre-recorded and uses various film technologies. At this year's event, brand new operating systems such as iOS18, watchOS 11, macOS Sequoia, and artificial intelligence platform Apple Intelligence were introduced. Undoubtedly, the two most anticipated topics of this year were introducing iOS18 and how Apple would use artificial intelligence technologies in its devices. Although many questions were answered by the end of the event, new questions and confusion also emerged.
iOS 18, the new generation operating system of iPhone phones, was introduced with some innovations. Widgets and applications can be positioned as we wish. It is now possible to increase the size of applications with the new control features added. The control panel has a new look, and the theme and application colors can now be customized. For the first time, Apple has taken a step towards the personalized experience and customization that has been available on Android phones for years. Flash and camera buttons on the lock screen can finally be changed as well. Regarding security, applications can be completely hidden, locked, and accessed with a face scan. Along with the timed and automatic message-sending option, new emojis and message effects are also included in the messages. These new features can be activated by pressing and holding on to the message. Sending messages via satellite connection draws attention as another innovation. The wallet app has a payment option with ''Tap the Cash''. A new game mode was added. In this way, it will be aimed to increase game performance by limiting applications running in the background. The photos app is being completely revamped. Libraries and albums can be divided into various themes and classes, thus preventing photos from getting mixed up. Various filters will also help with this issue. Sharing will become easier with new photo collections. Furthermore, there are visual innovations in the journal application. The Mail application will include various filtering areas such as promotions and primaries.
Many of these innovations and updates are already available on Android phones. However, Apple's secretive attitude towards customization seems to have come to an end. In addition, the newly introduced artificial intelligence platform, Apple Intelligence, seems to make a tremendous impact. We will discuss this issue in the second part of our article.
