Midwest Princess Chappell Roan
Your Favorite Artist's Favorite Artist
I am starting a new series where I introduce some singers and bands that I enjoy listening to and think should be on everyone’s playlists!
Starting with a really popular name these days: Chappell Roan.
If you spend your time on social media, especially on TikTok or Twitter, then you must have heard this name or at least one of her songs. It is safe to say that her most popular song is definitely “Good Luck, Babe!”, which is playing everywhere right now!
But who is Chappell Roan? Are her other songs also as good as “Good Luck, Babe!”?(Yes they are.)
First of all, let’s get to know Chappell Roan a little bit before diving into her discography. The 26-year-old singer’s real name is Kayleigh Rose Amstutz and she is from Missouri, U.S.A. She started writing songs when she was a teenager and started playing piano when she was only around 10 years old. She won her school’s talent show and auditioned for America’s Got Talent when she was a teenager as well. Around 15 years old, she began to upload her covers to YouTube. In 2014, she uploaded her song “Die Young” to YouTube, and the following year, she signed her first record deal with Atlantic Records.
Her music career throughout her teenage years and early 20s was up-and-down. When she felt success coming to her, everything crashed down on her. In 2020, her record company dropped Roan due to her songs being not enough even though her song “Pink Pony Club” was listed in the top 10 songs of 2020. After being let go by the record company, she started working as a barista and tried to fund herself while working on her music.
In 2022, she released her song “Naked In Manhattan” in which she openly for the first time talks about loving and having a relationship with another girl. After this release, she was selected as an opening artist for Olivia Rodrigo’s Sour Tour in May 2022.
In February of 2023, she started her own tour named Naked in North America. Later that year, she released her debut album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess.
And in 2024, she again was the opening artist for Olivia Rodrigo’s Guts World Tour until April and in the same month she released the song that we all have been hearing everywhere ever since it was released: “Good Luck, Babe!”
