Top Games of 2022

Which games were the best of 2022? Let's check out best games of 2022 as we are getting closer to 2023.

2022 was an overall satisfying year in the matter of video games. We got large, AAA titles like God of War and Elden Ring, and small, unexpected but welcome indie games such as Stray. Let’s check out the most notable games of 2022 as we keep getting closer and closer to the new year.

Elden Ring

Being the latest member of the souls-like genre, Elden Ring fascinates us with its rich details in every aspect. There are tons of weapons that allow many different playstyles for you to choose from.

Elden Ring doesn’t guide you like any other casual game but instead releases you in a colossal world for you to explore many lands and overcome many obstacles. Your ultimate goal is to defeat five Elden Lords and take their shards, forge the Elden Ring, and become one of the lords yourself. expectedly, Elden Ring satisfied the expectations, becoming Game of The Year.

The God of War Ragnarök

The long-awaited sequel of our favorite Norse saga, God of War Ragnarök was one of the best releases of 2022 without any doubt. Not only the story but also every character is well written.

It is satisfying to explore The Nine Realms, as the level of detail is excellent. Even though It had a tough job competing against one of the best games ever, God of War (2018), God of War Ragnarök successfully satisfies our expectations.

Horizon Forbidden West

If you enjoyed Horizon Zero Dawn, then this is a must-play. Horizon Forbidden West is a breathtaking journey that improves all the mechanics of its prequel and creates a lively world full of hazards and surprises.

It has everything it takes to make a good role-playing game: exploration, gathering, hunting, and combat. To upgrade their weapons and armor, players need to find parts. Searching for them gives players a reason to hunt down machines, which are very strong bosses. Every machine has an individual weakness and needs specific strategies to take down. Learning tactics to take down machines quickly that once you struggled feels rewarding.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

The sequel of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019), Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II doesn’t change much (well, it doesn’t have to) but it was a hell of a ride from the beginning to the end.

Dealing with drug and arms dealers in Mexico, sacrificing a piece of your morality on the way, and the satisfaction of pulling the trigger hook you into Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II. Overall it offers a well-made singleplayer and months of playtime thanks to multiplayer.

Stray

Stray is a platformer-adventure game about a kitty that tries to escape a cyberpunk, dystopic city while freeing trapped robots. While at it, you experience how wonderful a cat’s perspective could be. Being able to pass narrow spaces, jump high, and see the beauty of rooftops is fascinating.

The gameplay mostly consists of platforming and puzzle-solving while exploring a beautiful cyberpunk city full of robots who don’t even know what a cat is. Also, a simple “meow” button allows players to interact with robots.

At the end of my recap of the best video games of 2022, it can be said the releases of this year were satisfying. Even though the year is almost over, thankfully there are many titles to look forward such as The Legends of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, or Hades II, which you can read about in my review here.
