Afghanistan After the Taliban Takeover: Humanitarian Crisis and Global Responses
Assessment of the two year reign of the Talibans in Afghanistan.
In August 2021, the Taliban promptly reclaimed the role of Afghanistan stimulating an uncertain humanitarian crisis. The revival of the Taliban has enabled nationwide displacement, due to which thousands of locals were forced to leave their homes in search of security. The Afghan refugees are facing constant challenges to fulfill their needs of necessities such as food, shelter, and healthcare. The healthcare facilities have become highly saturated, impacting women and children. The education system is completely ruined and there is a major underlying threat to the prospects of Afghani children. It is reported that almost 15.3 million people are experiencing Food insufficiency. 22.1 million people need security support and approximately 8.7 million children need of educational assistance. The access to clean water is minimal and the constant flooding has adversely affected the major crops that have resulted in a shortage of food supplies.
The rigorous policies implemented by the Taliban group have restricted individual freedom, particularly those of women and girls, and the higher authorities have proven to be incompetent in providing services and supplies to their people.
Today, the highest number of Afghan refugees and asylum seekers reside in Iran and Pakistan.
