AFTERSUN

Review about the movie Aftersun

In today's article, I would like to talk about a movie that affected me so much that I am sure I will not be able to erase it from my memory even after a few years.

Aftersun is an emotional feature-length film based on a father-daughter relationship.

Charlotte Wells wrote and directed this movie based on real life. Charlotte filmed the last summer vacation she spent with her father in her own life. Some scenes in the movie are intermittent and unrelated to each other because Charlotte combines the memories she remembers with the memories she later constructs in her imagination and leaves some scenes to the imagination of the audience.

Calum was trying to find his own way in his own story, but he feels more and more lost and suffocated. Calum loses his faith, he loses himself, but Sofia understands all this when she is the same age as her father. Remembering like sunscreen it protects from sunburn so remembering protect from reality.

"Can't we give ourselves one more chance?"

Even though the events in the movie seem ordinary, there are many messages. Everything seems to be independent from each other, but they are all related to each other. The movie is like a puzzle. You try to fill the missing pieces of the puzzle with your own imagination.

In fact, I think that viewers who have unfinished, incomplete stories with their fathers will find a lot of themselves in the movie and will embark on a journey that will unravel their own memories.

Aftersun is actually a movie where our memories and traumas come together and we try to fill the gaps between them. But there is no way to heal the damage left by memories and traumas. They always create gaps inside us that cannot be filled and they continue to hide deep inside until we dig them up, but they continue to affect our lives.

Unspoken words can sometimes be the equivalent of a paper cut.

I think Charlotte Wells did a very successful job, especially her song choices. Especially in the dance scene of the movie, the under pressure we hear at the end of the movie hits us like a slap in the face, just like in reality.

It was the last time Sofia and Calum spent time together, the last time they hugged each other, the last time they laughed, the last time they argued, the last time they said I love you each other and that was the last time they shared the same sky.

" I think it's nice that we share the same sky"

I highly recommend you to give this movie with emotional depth and atmosphere a chance and watch it carefully.
