Earthlings

The Documentary "Earthlings"

"Earthlings" is a 2005 documentary directed by Shaun Monson and it is about animals who suffer from large companies.

Earthling means one who inhabits the earth. There is no sexism, no racism, or speciesism in the term earthling. People are not the only species on this planet, share this world with millions of other living creatures. Humanity has absolute dependence on animals (for pets, food, clothing, entertainment, and scientific research) but there is a complete disrespect of people for these so-called non-human providers.

Most people love pets, but some of them get bored, send their animals to animal shelters, and never visit them. They have no idea about what happens in there. Breeders in pet stores and puppy mills find and take stray animals, and feed and protect them in a given time. However, when these animals are not taken by people, breeders think of their loss and decide to kill them. Euthanasia and gas chambers with cyanide poison are some styles of death.

In the food industry, killing animals occurs tyrannously by humans. For people who eat meat, the process comprises of branding, dehorning, and transportation of animals in order. Through the instrument of captive bolts, bleeding takes place; and then, knocking boxes becomes a part of this event. Pigs cannot stand factory conditions; they are put in gestation crates and have ruptures and abscesses. Cannibalism against waste pigs is common among living pigs. Tail docking, ear clipping, teeth cutting, castration, electric prods, electrocution, throat slitting, boiling, and hair removal are the other tortures and torment. In poultry, debeaking is the first process so that they cannot beak each other. They are put in battery cages and living conditions are very bad because they cannot even move. Then, transportation and slaughter happen in turn. Commercial fishing is also common in the world although lots of fish suffer from diseases that are derived from sea pollution. Whaling and catching dolphins are the other influences of this.

Animals also play a very significant role in our clothes. Leathers are derived from Indian cows. After shoeing and roping, cows are sent for slaughter. Tail breaking and using chili pepper in animals’ eyes are done by handlers to stand the cows who fall because of fatigue. To send fur, some animals suffer from cage madness, injuries, and slow death.

Animals are also used in circuses, zoos, and fair grounds for entertainment. Hunting, fishing, pigeon bowling, and bullfighting are some examples. Even though they are trained and roped, sometimes they revenge.

Medical experiments are the most common type of animal suffering. However, we are never sure the result of it is available for humans. There also may be vivisection for military research.

In conclusion, animals suffer from people for illogical reasons. Humankind and animals, we are the earthlings, need to respect the other specie’s life and should not be tyrants.
