Jorge Martin's incredible championship win

Jorge Martin, the Spanish Prima Pramac rider wins the championship after finishing third in his hometown of Barcelona, Spain.

Jorge Martin of Prima Pramac Racing is now the 2024 MotoGP world champion, after a flawless ride in Barcelona, the last race of the 2024 MotoGP season.

The Spanish rider is now the first and only ever MotoGP rider to win a championship in an independent team, with Prima Pramac Racing. Ducati's factory team secured the constructors' championship as Bagnaia won the last race. Martin finished third.

Martin had a rather frustrating stint in the 2023 season of MotoGP, ending his chances of a championship after crashing in Valencia. He finished as a runner-up to Bagnaia in the standings with a 39 point gap. Although in 2024, Martin showcased excellent pace and racecraft and triumphed over Bagnaia. Incredibly, Martin did all this with an independent team, which has never been done before.

Jorge Martin is set for a transfer to Aprilia Racing in 2025 with a multi-year contract, ending his stint with Prima Pramac Racing. The Spanish rider holds the record of being the first and only independent rider to have won a championship in MotoGP.
