PCOS - Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common disease seen in one out of every 5-7 women in Turkey.
In polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) disorder, the ovaries produce excess androgens, which are male sex hormones that usually exist in women in modest amounts. Multiple tiny cysts that develop in the ovaries are called polycystic ovarian syndrome. Cysts, however, do not always occur in women with this condition, although they sometimes do in those who do not.
A mature egg is discharged from an ovary during ovulation. This takes place so that male sperm can fertilize it. During your period, the egg is expelled from the body if it is not fertilized. A woman may occasionally produce insufficient amounts of the hormones required for ovulation. The ovaries may grow many tiny cysts when ovulation is absent. Androgens are hormones that these cysts produce. Androgen levels are frequently elevated in women with PCOS. This may worsen a woman's menstrual cycle issues. Moreover, many of the symptoms of PCOS can be brought on by it.
Medication is a common component of PCOS treatment. Although it does not treat PCOS, it can help with symptoms and some health issues.
It is unclear what causes PCOS specifically. PCOS may run in families as well. Sisters or a mother and daughter frequently develop PCOS. PCOS symptoms could include:
Missed periods, irregular cycles, or exceptionally light cycles
Excessive body hair, especially on the back, stomach, and chest
Gaining weight, especially around the abdomen
Greasy skin or acne
Infertility
A variety of factors affect how PCOS is treated. Some examples are your age, the severity of your symptoms, and your general health.
Birth control pills. These aid in regulating menstrual periods, lowering testosterone levels, and clearing up acne.
A shift in diet and exercise. You can lose weight and lessen your symptoms by eating well and engaging in more physical activity. They may aid in ovulation, decrease blood sugar levels, and improve insulin sensitivity in your body.
