Spectre Divide

Is a new rival on the way?

For years, Counter Strike had been the most popular first-person online game. With a huge and loyal community, it had the hearts of its players. However, in 2020, a new game, Valorant was introduced and quickly became the new sensation. Still preserving its popularity, Counter Strike started to be compared with Valorant. Although each game has its own unique features and atmosphere, there has been an ongoing debate on which one is better.

Now, however, a new game might be added to the debate: Spectre Divide. Spectre Divide was created by Michael Grzesiek, known as Shroud, a streamer, Youtuber, and former pro player of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.

Spectre Divide is a 3v3 shooter game in which each round is won by planting a bomb that destroys the enemy's side. In the game, each player has two bodies to control: One is You and the other is your Spectre. Placing one at a selected place on the map and playing with the other, you can switch between the characters anytime.

Also, you can customize your characters' looks!

When we look at the game, we notice that it has similar gameplay to both Valorant and Counter Strike in that it's a shooter game that ends with planting a bomb. On the other hand, we see that its buy phase works a little bit differently than the others: In Spectre Divide, you buy weapons as sets. As you control two bodies, you will need two weapons, however, they cannot be the same one. In the game, there are weapon sets. For example, you can have an M25 Hornet and choose between a Shotgun, Pistol, and Sniper and create your own set or buy one of the sets in the store.

In the game, there is a big similarity to Valorant as well. Being an avid player of Valorant, Shroud was aware of the game's most remarkable feature, the Skills, and he made use of it in his game.

Just like in Valorant, Spectre Divide offers some skills for players to use. Offered by the "sponsors" in the game, the skills come as skill sets that the two bodies share. Each skill set contains three skills. For example, if one chooses the sponsor "Pinnacle International", he will receive a Splinter Grenade that inflicts damage, an Adrena-Link that heals your characters and enhances some abilities of your spectre, and a Flash Grenade that blinds everyone in sight. There are other sponsors such as "Bloom Technologies" offering a Hex Barrier to block incoming bullets, a Twin Mend to heal teammates and their spectres or yourself and your spectre, and a Swarm Grenade to block enemy vision. There are eight sponsors in total each offering unique skills. The Skills, as we have seen in Valorant, provide a more creative gameplay, making it extra fun to play and watch!

Although the game is still in the Closed Beta phase, it is highly anticipated. Maybe, Spectre Divide might soon join Counter Strike and Valorant on the Top FPS Games list.
