#3 Queer Movies That Hurt So Good
Part 3: Imagine Me & You, Lost and Delirious, And Then We Danced
Imagine Me & You (2005)
"There goes the bride."
I wouldn't be wrong if I told you that this is probably the one and only queer movie with a happy ending... Directed by Ol Parker in 2005, an unhappy bride falls head over heels in love with a florist and this charming British drama begins. It is a complete ride of wedding drama and sapphic joy with the ultimate taste of friends to lovers.
Oh, by the way, Happy Together by The Turtles will be stuck on repeat; and so will your heart.
Lost and Delirious(2001)
Directed by Lea Pool, Lost and Delirious is a queer coming-of-age tragedy of forbidden love, first love and first heartbreak. It starts of dreamy, full of youthful spirits of rebellion but then hits you with the burden of queer teen angst, parental oppression, societal expectations, and heteronormativity. It will wreck you in every possible way that it can.
And Then We Danced(2019) by Levan Akin
Raw, poetic devastation of a closeted queer boy in modern Thiblisi, it serves as a queer love letter to all the people who embraced their culture with a hug like Merab. It is about thousands of unspoken things and how a young boy navigates conflicts between tradition and his flourishing love for another man, Irakli. They bond through dance, sweat, shame, and desire.
Take care and have a good crying session till I'm back with part 4!
