Effects of Social Media On People

Can you imagine a world without social media? It emerged just a decade ago but has already become a major part of our lives. Whereas ıt was solely a tool for archiving memories and finding old acquaintances in the beginning, it has recently been turned into a great source of income and interaction tool. Therefore, the people who are called "influencers" have come into being. They show us their lifestyle which is full of luxury and glamour to persuade people to consume. And they of course affect us. Who can claim the opposite?  However, the effects of social media are not restricted to influencers. There are some other effects on people.

Social media doesn't always lead to consumption. To remember the Izmir Earthquake, a big aid campaign was created on Instagram and Twitter. Thanks to social media, people could get in touch with each other easily, and requirements were communicated to the mass quickly. Furthermore, the children who suffer from SMA need to receive treatment to heal. But it is too expensive to afford. That's why their families have been launching donation campaigns on social media, and most of them have been completed successfully by helpful people. Even though these families don't recognize donators face to face, they can reach them through social media.

Social media is not limited to Instagram or Twitter. Youtube also affects people, and it enables so many things from learning from cooking to making a plane. People can find any topic which they wonder about. However, its effect is lower than on Instagram and Twitter because of the deprivation of communication. To illustrate, on the other social media platforms, it is possible to send direct messages and to mention, but Youtube just allows comments. Moreover, the influence of YouTube is most powerful on children. Since children can neither share nor read, the only way to access them is through visuals. But the effect on children is the most dangerous one because people who have bad intentions can recreate their personalities. So parents must be aware.
