Girly Classics: 5 Movies For Team 'I'm Just a Girl'

Chick Flicks and girls against the world.

When it comes to girly classics, chick flicks, or whatever you want to call those masterpieces of real cinema, I know how it feels to come across the same movies repeatedly. You are searching for a hidden gem because you have already watched Mean Girls, Clueless, or Legally Blonde, but you are lost and need a beginner's guide, right? Bear with me today because I have a list of underrated and underappreciated girly classics for you.

First of all, shall we begin with a relatively more popular one called:

'But I'm a Cheerleader(1999)'?

Imagine a coming-of-age movie with a main character whose parents send her off to a school to teach her how to be straight... But she is just a cheerleader who just loves spending quality time with her girlfriends right? If you are interested enough, just watch this film and thank me later because I still have butterflies in my stomach whenever I think about this film. Okay, cut it out, let's move on to another epic tale.

Practical Magic(1998)

"There's a little witch in all of us."

A bewitching (literally) tale about love, sisterhood, and spells. But there is a curse that comes within the magic: it's the curse of the dangers of finding everlasting love. Set in a charming small town in autumn, Practical Magic will be your favorite witch movie (assuming that you have already seen The Craft or The Love Witch, if not they are also great), I back my words.

Uptown Girls(2003)

Uptown Girls made me laugh, shiver, cry my eyes out, and enjoy being lost in my 20s.

It’s for the girls who wanted to grow up so bad and they did. They did grow up. Now those girls are grown-ups stuck in their adult worries but experiencing childhood wonder because their inner child is yearning for the purity of their childhood that they could not experience. It is indeed a harsh world.

Okay, shall we continue with the fourth one?

Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion(1997)

I'll keep it nice and brief: Romy and Michele were lovers written by David Lynch that’s where the tension and the whole charm comes from.

Starting with “Oh I’m just a girl, guess I’m some kinda freak” and watching Pretty Woman is such a vibe, right? Because that's how the movie starts, and continues till the notorious high school reunion.

The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants(2005)

Spending their summer apart, 4 best friends share a single magical pair of jeans, swapping the pants and enjoying the magic of it. See the cast, the image, the flowers, and everything? It smells, it screams and it speaks 2000's.

If you have watched and enjoyed these movies, I'll be back with other picks like The Craft, Watching the Detectives, Mermaids, Shiva Baby, D.E.B.S, Heathers, The Good Witch, Freaky Friday, and others because I am nothing without my comfort movies. Enjoy watching the 5 until I publish the next batch!
