How To Build A Sımple Skincare Routine

We will see how you can build your morning and night skincare routine with simple steps with product recommendations.

Skincare is getting more popular every day, and new products and contents are being released, making it hard to keep up with the current trends of new skincare products. Especially after Korean skincare dominated the skincare market with seemingly long and complex routines, there are actually a few basic steps you can follow to build an effective skincare routine. I will give the basic steps of a skincare routine and one recommendation for each step that I have used that is suited for each skin type, but especially for oily skin.

We will start with the am or the morning routine first:

1- The first step is to use a water-based cleanser when you wash your face. A cleanser's duty is easy: it needs to cleanse the sebum and dirt that has accumulated throughout the night from your skin without drying it. That's why you need to stay away from the sulphate which essentially dries your skin. We need to cleanse the sebum and oil of the skin without taking the moisture away, which damages your skin barrier. You can accommodate the cleanser's contents according to your skin's needs. For example; if you have acne problems, you can use a cleanser with salicylic acid.

*Recommendation: cosrx salicylic acid daily gentle cleanser

2- You can skip this step if you want to keep your routine really simple. So, after washing your face with a cleanser, you can use a vitamin C serum. Start with a serum that contains a low percentage of vitamin C to prevent your skin from breaking out. It is an essential anti-aging content to prevent and get rid of wrinkles. It also helps with fighting acne scars and brightens your skin.

*Recommendation: luv it brightening vitamin C serum

3- Moisturizer is an essential step for both morning and night routines. Even if you have oily skin, you need to use a moisturizer to prevent your skin from losing water and to keep a healthy skin barrier. My recommendation is to use a water-based moisturizer.

*Recommendation: rovectin - clean lotus water cream

4-The most important step is using sunscreen. You need to use it the size of two fingers of sunscreen and rub it into both your face and neck. Sunscreen especially gained importance after the higher rates of skin cancer due to not protecting from harmful radiation from the sun. Sunscreen protects us from harmful UVA and UVB lights and helps our skin to prevent aging.

*Recommendation: D'alba Waterfull Essence Sun Cream

Now, let's come to the night routine.

1- We again need to cleanse our skin, but with double cleansing this time. Sunscreen and the sebum accumulated in the skin cannot be rinsed out from the skin just by a water-based cleanser, which results in acne and blackheads. So, you need to apply a balm or an oil-based cleanser on your dry skin for 30-40 seconds and after that, by using a little amount of water and allowing the cleanser to become a milky state, you massage your skin a little while and just rinse with water. You can remove your eye makeup with oil-based cleansers too.

*Recommendation: klairs - gentle black fresh cleansing oil

2- Right after you rinse your face with water, use a water-based cleanser again and complete your double cleanse. An important note is that if you will use any type of active content on your face later, you shouldn't use a cleanser that contains salicylic acid

*Recommendation: celenes cleansing foaming gel

3- Like in the morning routine, you should apply moisturizer after these steps.

Now you can finish your routine, or add active content like AHA or BHA, retinol, or benzoyl peroxide that you cannot use during the day due to sun.

With that, you have completed all the basic and efficient steps that your skin needs!
