How to Deal with Our Fears

In this article, we will be informed about the progress of overcoming fear.

"Fear" can be seen as just an emotion at first but it indirectly affects our lives in different ways. Some events, incidents, and thoughts of individuals that involve "danger" can lead to fear. Sometimes, as opposed to these situations there may be no reason that leads to fear. Besides reasons, a sense of fear also has results that can affect the person. To improve the quality of our life, we can try to deal with our fears. Everyone has different ways of dealing with their fears. Solutions can vary according to the individuals´ traits.

Every feeling has a reason that makes us react accordingly. The reasons produced for fear also differ from the person to person. If one wants to handle their fears, the first step should be finding the reason that makes one fear.

After finding the reason, we are to take an action. Our fears can prevent us from advancing in our careers or something we can enjoy. Therefore, instead of running away from our fears, we need to normalize what we fear and get used to it. To achieve this, we should practice what we fear. There will always be a moderate amount of anxiety but do not wait for your anxiety to disappear before taking a step forward.

For example, if you want to go abroad and you have a fear of flying you should not let it prevent you from giving up your goals and dreams. Instead of canceling your plan, you should move forward. You are the one who will provide safety and reduce anxiety. You will realize that you can face your fears when you act with courage and take steps. You will also notice that you can do something beneficial for yourself and your life when you want.

If you do not have enough courage to take a step on your own or your fears are bigger than you think, you can seek the help of a trusted mental health professional. You can have something like a diagnosable anxiety disorder and you may feel you are not ready to conquer your fears on your own. In this case, it is too normal to seek professional help.

While avoiding the situations you fear might make you comfortable in the short term but avoidance can cause increased anxiety in the long term. By confronting your fears and handling them, you will realize that you are a more qualified person than ever.
