The Last Time

The melancholy of longing for the past.

Sometimes an old song we hear, sometimes a movie or cartoon we watched as a child, or the smell of perfume takes us from the present and takes us to that exact moment and feelings. It's a very strange and difficult feeling to describe because it reminds you of the happiness, peace, and even the smell of the environment you felt at that moment in the past.

Maybe we feel a deep and strong longing to return to that moment. A bitter smile appears on your face, your eyes may well up with tears, and you lose your grip on the present moment. You compare it with your current state and keep thinking about how happy and peaceful you were then. You suddenly come face to face with the reality of how quickly everything passes by. And you face the worst truth, the fact that you can never go back to that moment again.

The melancholy of knowing that those times when you played hide-and-seek with your friends at the park or that movie night with your best friend with snacks in your hands will never come again settles over you. We all played with our beloved friends for the last time, ate our favorite childhood snacks, watched magnificent views, and had deep and meaningful conversations with our loved ones at the most beautiful tables. Without knowing that it was the last time.
