Traditional Art or Digital Art

Choose your side!

Sometimes I feel so lucky because I’m in an era in which technology is developing rapidly. However, it's evolved so fast, and it affects all the fields that people belong in.  I’m going to mention about one of these fields:  art.

We all know that art has a  wide history. It all started with scratching on walls in caves, and then on leathers, then papyruses, on woods, papers  and so on. How about if we travel back in time, and give any Renaissance Artist’s hand a digital drawing tablet, and say “You don’t have to wait for drying of your paintings, you can draw on this glass! If you make any mistake, don’t worry; you can use your two fingers and undo all of your mistakes in seconds.”  I think the artist will go crazy...

However, In my opinion digital art is much more beneficial than traditional art in some ways. Let's compare them in an unofficial way.

The only benefit of traditional art is: when you sit back, you can look at a painting, or a drawing, and just think about how much time and effort went into making a single piece. However, now you can feel the same by printing your art.

On the other hand, for me, there are numerous disadvantages of traditional art. Firstly, if you prefer oil painting, there's lots of time that you are going to waste. By wasting time, I'm not talking about the time when you paint. If you have any interest in these topics, you must know that when you paint, you must use the technique called “coating” or “layering”which means you paint the background first, and wait for the drying, and after a couple of days you add the other layers, and wait again and again... It depends on the quality of oil and paint, but rumors have it, complete drying of a painting usually takes years from 10 to 70. That’s a long time tho.

There’s more: If you are a clumsy person like me, there's a big possibility of messing up a drawing. It depends on what happens. For instance, let's assume you're using the technique of water coloring, and you must carry a glass of water for using the color and mixing, right? You tried to reach somewhere, and accidentally you poured all the water into your artwork. There’s no turning back right here: it’s trash.  If you’re drawing with ink or coloring pencils- let’s assume again you made a huge mistake (because you are clumsy lol)- yes, for coloring pencils  there’s a small percentage to erase but still you can't undo your mistakes[G11]  as  in digital art. You might ruin your masterpiece.

I finally want to mention about the advantages of digital art.Of course, I can't tell all the good stuffs because I know no one has that time to read it. I am only going to write the things that I’m most impressed; the highlights.

I have already mentioned what happens when you make a mistake if you prefer digital drawing, you just undo it in seconds. I think one of the best things is, there’s no limit. If you have enough creativity, drawing apps offer whaever you need. You can turn a potato picture into a portrait. There’s an artist who does it: @rossdraws . He uses Adobe Photoshop's tools to do lots of stuff. He even made a family portrait by using his meal's photo. I'll put the link below you should definitely watch because he is crazy. In conclusion, there's nothing to stop you if you have an idea and a little bit of talent.

You don’t have to worry about traditional techniques of drawings, you can learn pretty good stuff from the internet. There are lots of online courses, and tutorials about digital drawings. You can always make practice whenever you want.
