Unveiling the Official Medals of the Paris 2024 Olympics
Medals for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
On Thursday, February 8th, Paris 2024 unveiled the Olympic and Paralympic medals, crafted by Place Vendôme jeweler Chaumet and manufactured by the Monnaie de Paris. The victorious athletes will have the esteemed privilege of carrying home a piece of the iconic Eiffel Tower. The presentation ceremony was led by Tony Estanguet, President of the Organizing Committee.
In a historic first for the Games, these medals will feature a profoundly symbolic and invaluable addition: original iron from the Eiffel Tower. Tony Estanguet explained, "This medal needed to embody another potent symbol of our nation and our capital: the Eiffel Tower. Converting this concept into reality required extensive effort. Integrating gold, silver, and bronze with our national treasure was a monumental undertaking."
Continuing a tradition seen in every edition, the medals narrate the revival of the Games in Greece. A prominent feature on the medals, the goddess of victory, Nike stands in the foreground, depicted against the backdrop of the Panathenaic stadium where the Olympic Games were revived in 1896. Additionally, the Acropolis graces the foreground. However, for Paris 2024, the Acropolis shares the stage with another iconic landmark: the Eiffel Tower, positioned opposite, mirroring its image across the stadium. This design embodies the inspiration drawn from the ancient Greek Games, the French roots of the modern Olympic movement, and the forthcoming edition in Paris.
With meticulous attention to detail and historical significance, the Paris 2024 Olympic medals stand as a testament to the enduring spirit of the Games bridging the past, present, and future.
