Will MCU Come Back?

Are we at a turning point for Marvel?

Marvel is an American-based comic book publishing company. It contains many legendary superheroes. Spider-Man, X-Men, Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk and Thor are just some of them. The Marvel cinematic universe (MCU) is a fictional universe based on characters and stories from Marvel comics. This universe includes genres such as movies, short films, television series, digital series and digital games. The universe is lined with various phases. Iron Man, released in 2008, is considered the first movie of the cinematic universe. The first phase includes the first films of heroes such as Hulk, Captain America, Guardians of the Galaxy and the Avengers. The second phase made a splash with its sequels, especially the films Captain America: The Winter Solider and Avengers: Age of Ultron. Phase 3 found a new breath with Spider Man's inclusion in the universe. Black Panther and Doctor Strange movies are important in terms of laying the groundwork for the events that will take place towards the end of the phase. The universe reached its peak with the Avengers Infinity War and Endgame movies. These films have generated revenues exceeding billions of dollars, creating an unforgettable cinema experience and enjoyable moments.

However, after the 4th phase, things started to go wrong. Although television series of many new characters were broadcast, they were not appreciated enough. Focusing on the small stories of new characters after iconic superheroes like the Avengers became boring for the audience after a point. When the lack of interesting stories and the reduction of budgets were added to this, the resulting projects remained dull. The process was also triggered by workers working in the visual effects department being exposed to long working hours. The use of socio-political messages in TV series and movies also caused criticism from some viewers. In recent years, the MCU management has taken some steps to solve this crisis. It was decided to carry out fewer but high-quality projects. Fan service scenes were added to the contents to attract viewers. Interesting stories began to be created by focusing on popular characters. Deadpool & Wolverine, the only movie in the universe to be released in 2024, has already become a production that millions of people are curious about. In a way, this movie will make clear whether the MCU will be able to achieve the fame of its old days or not.
