1922

A horror film (2017) based on Stephen King's novella.

1922 is a thrilling American horror drama film directed and written by Zak Hilditch. The movie is based on Stephen King’s novella of the same name. Released in October 2017, the movie stars Thomas Jane, Neal McDonough, and Molly Parker. The movie plots a farmer living in Hemingford, Nebraska, Wilfred James, who lives an ordinary life with his wife, Arlette, and son, Henry. But greed would suddenly change this seemingly normal and harmless rural life.

Wilfred wants to raise his son, whom he sees as his heir, as a farmer like himself. However, Arlette opposes her husband and wants to sell the lands she inherited and move to Omaha. Moreover, because of the disagreement, Arlette proposes to divorce, take custody of her son, and go to the city. Scared of losing his son and precious lands, Wilfred plans devilish aims to eliminate his wife.

Henry, who loves the rural life, is manipulated by his father, and Wilfred involves his son in his diabolical murder plan; unfortunately, Henry reluctantly agrees. After getting his wife drunk and Arlette passing out, Wilfred murders his wife in their bed with his son, Henry. They throw Arlette's body into a dry well where there are rats, and the following day, they throw the corpse of the cow into the well to fill it and hide the body. Although Arlette’s disappearance is suspicious, the sheriff cannot find any evidence of the crime.

After his wife's murder, things get worse for Wilfred. As time goes by, Henry becomes increasingly remorseful and bitter about the murder he and his father committed. Henry runs away with his girlfriend after learning that Shannon is pregnant.

Wilfred, left all alone, begins to have delusions about rats surrounding him and his room. Wilfred, desperate for money, becomes infected when a mouse bites his hand while searching for money his wife might have hidden. Too consumed by alcohol and guilt, his injury gets worse, and gets amputated. Wilfred, whose desperation increases day by day, sells his possessions for a low price, leaves rural life, moves to Omaha, and starts working there. But the rats don’t leave him alone either.

Years later, Wilfred writes a letter of confession and ends his letter as follows: “In the end, we all get caught.” Dozens of rats invade the room, and the bodies of Arlette, Henry, and Shannon appear in the room. Henry, with a bloody knife in his hand, says, “Papa, it’ll be quick.”
