5 Netflix Fantasy Shows That Should Have Not Been Cancelled
5 fantasy shows cancellations that made the fans sad.
Netflix is infamously known for cancelling shows that are loved by the audience. Since fantasy shows require higher budgets and longer years to make, it seems like Netflix loves to cancel especially fantasy/sci-fi shows. Here are 5 fantasy shows that should have not been cancelled according to many:
Dead Boy Detectives (2024)
Cast: George Rexstrew, Jayden Revri, Kassius Nelson
Our main characters, ghosts, Charles Rowland and Edwin Payne choose not to enter the afterlife and they choose staying on Earth to investigate supernatural crimes through the help of their friend Cristal who has psychic powers and alive. The show was based on DC Comics characters with the same name. It was promoted as a spin-off of The Sandman. The show was was cancelled after one season and the fans are still fighting for a new season by using the hashtag #SaveDeadBoysDetectives on social media platforms.
Shadow and Bone (2021-2023)
Cast: Stars Jessie Mei Li, Ben Barnes, Archie Renaux
Orphan mapmaker Alina Starkov turns out to be the only one who can save Ravka from the fold that divides the country. As she learns about herself and her powers that has been inside her from the beginning. Adapted from the Grishaverse books by Leigh Bardugo, it was very devastating for the book fans, show fans and the cast when Netflix didn't choose to renew the show for a third season and a spin-off of Six of Crows.
The OA (2016-2019)
Cast: Brit Marling, Jason Isaacs, Scott Wilson
Prairie returns home after seven years of being missing for years. She was blind when she was gone, but she returns with a restored sight. We learn her terrifying story full of mysteries as the story goes on. The show was cancelled after 2 seasons. Appearantly, the show got cancelled before and Netflix wanted to conclude the story with a film, but the producers declined this because they wanted end the show with a full season instead. Unfortunately, it seems like we will get neither.
Warrior Nun (2020-2022)
Cast: Alba Baptista, Kristina Tonteri-Young, Lorena Andrea
After waking up in a morgue, disabled Ava discovers that she now is healed and has superpowers as the Halo Bearer for a secret organization of nuns who are fighting with demons. The show was cancelled after two seasons. However, after some time, the creator of the series Simon Berry revealed that the fans saved the show. It was announced that the show is being revived with a trilogy of feature films. However, as there are no news and it is not known whether the cast or even the plot will be the same, and since the fans are still campaining, I added this show to the list.
I Am Not Okay with This (2020)
Cast: Sophia Lillis, Wyatt Oleff, Sofia Bryant
Sydney is a teenage girl in high school with common teenager problems like family issues, friendships and her sexuality. However, she also needs to figure out about the superpowers awaken inside her. The show was planned to have two seasons and had already formed an audience of its own. Appearantly COVID-19 impacted production costs, and the show had to end with a cliff-hanger after one season.
