Boygenius: A Supergroup
A brief introduction to Boygenius
Boygenius is a music band that consists of 3 members in total: Phoebe Bridgers, Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus. All of the members have solo music careers outside of the band activities that’s where the name supergroup stems from. In this brief introduction to Boygenius, I want to talk about not only the group activities but also the members’ solo works as well.
Let’s start with the formation of the group. Boygenius was formed in 2018 and with their self-titled EP, they debuted. The group has three major works in total: the first one being their debut EP, the second one, The Record, being their debut album that was released in 2023 after a long hiatus. The album gained them seven Grammy nonimations with three wins, including Best Alternative Music Album, Best Rock Song and Best Rock Performance. And the last work of theirs being their second EP, The Rest.
Despite having limited discography, the group gained popularity thanks to members’ fame as solo artists. They have been on TV shows and have collaborated with other musicians such as Hayley Williams. They also featured on each other’s solo works: whether it’s back vocals, production or taking parts in the music videos.
With their debut studio album released in 2023, Boygenius started an international tour that’s called The Tour which featured various artists such as Carly Rae Jepsen and Claud. They performed at Coachella in 2023 as well. Towards the end of the same year, Boygenius released their second EP, The Rest. After this release, at the beginning of 2024, they revealed that they were going on an indefinite hiatus.
