Enter the Void - Movie Review
A review on Enter the Void, directed by Gaspar Noe whose movies make your brain go numb when you watch them.
Enter the Void is a film by a director whose films I have only recently met, but I have heard of before. I was hesitant to watch and at the same time found these films eerie.
I knew a little bit about the director before the movie. I knew that his films were quite disturbing, pornographic, and appealing to the visual perception, so I thought it would be a mistake for me to watch his movies. Since this was my first encounter with the movie Enter the Void, I decided to share my feelings immediately after watching it.
Set in Tokyo, the film is entirely based on neon colors, and even the names of the places are used extensively. We can call the movie a play of light. Visual perception and colors appear with a dominant expression, images are often seen.
The editing and transitions between scenes are just as skillful and interesting techniques are used. Although I can say that it is groundbreaking and successful in these matters, the images containing excessive +18 disturbed me a lot. Although he makes movies according to his own understanding and style, every point we present to people is important to me.
I think that sexual life should remain a private situation for two people. Since I am more interested in artistic films, I think that violence and sexuality, especially such extreme films, should not be adapted to cinema and broadcast. Sexuality is a part of our lives and no one can change or ignore it. However, I do not find it right to present it visually.
The camera moving around its natural axis with the player is one of my favorite camera tricks. It takes us into it and makes us feel like we are in that scene as if we are in 3D. I just think that it is pointless to keep it so long and that it should be finished in a shorter time. Tokyo, the place where it was shot, was a good choice by the director because it is a city that fascinates with its atmosphere where bright, neon, show and color riots live together. The themes of drugs, sexuality, and death dominate and do not satisfy me in terms of the script. I didn't like this situation because there was no subject and no motive to tell something. However, I can say that it has a different atmosphere in general.
The director himself knows that there is a real labor in the movie.
He has created a good product of labor by making his style speak. I sincerely congratulate him on this. The movie is not for me, I didn't like it, but I can say that it left a mark on me with some impressive scenes.
The story of the teddy bear and the book of the dead used in the movie important items in terms of the importance of the movie. Flashbacks are also used in this movie.
I think there are some things that I can't fully specify in terms of genre. It's an experimental film, it also has a little bit of drama, but I can't call it a drama because it doesn't seem to be a heavy-weight predicate. Although it has the aspect of signing a fantastic journey, of course, there are no large-scale things like visual effects. However, I can say that as someone who loves experimental works like Gaspar Noe, I can say that it is really successful.
When making a movie, it is important to be able to express one's style. I think he did a good and successful job in this regard. we can say it. Everyone has a different way of expression and I respect that, so congratulations to the director once again. It didn't make my list of favorite films but I can say that I was impressed in terms of the techniques used.
