Joker Movie Analysis – Terrorism, Violence, Anarchism

JOKER

At the beginning of the movie, while witnessing Arthur's dreams and ideals, that is, a normal citizen, we see the triggering and expression of violence within him, as these ideals are destroyed by the environment and made a mockery in the television show he is a guest of.

We can think of the Joker as the representative of anarchism. The Joker, who is against all established orders and authorities, does not recognize any authority as a character. We can say that his unruly personality is caused by his neurological and psychological disorders because he has nervous disorders such as the inability to control his laughter, which we see from the beginning of the movie. In addition, we can say that these ailments were triggered by the fact that he could not see the applause expected by the environment and society, and he lost control. We can also understand from the ongoing events in the film that the Joker, like many violent or addicted people, takes pleasure from this and believes that he gains power as he exhibits violent behaviors in his surroundings and becomes more uncontrolled.

Moreover, there is an ego problem underlying the anarchism in the Joker's identity, triggered by the environment, neurological and psychological diseases, as well as the joker's out of control.

At the beginning of the movie, we see a citizen who dreams of getting applause from people and becoming a comedian. Every person expects applause as a result of his work, but if we think that Joker gets out of control when he doesn't get applause, we can say that he has an inner conflict with his ego. As a result of this internal conflict, the joker, who is already an anarchist, resorts to violence like all willless people when he needs to satisfy his ego and prove himself. The pleasure that violence creates in him is completely out of control, along with power and ego satisfaction.

Although I think that anarchism in society stems from ego conflicts, I see that people try to solve their problems with themselves through society.

Differences

If we take the difference between terrorism and anarchism, terrorism is a method used by a group of people to achieve a certain goal or ideal. People who have adopted certain rules and ideals resort to terrorism to impose the rules and ideals they have adopted on other people and societies. For example, the joker's attempt to endear himself by scaring people or forcing himself to applaud can be considered terrorism. Conversely, anarchism recognizes no rules and ideals (it does not recognize terrorism) and does not accept it. It rejects all authority.
