METU is a brand not only in Türkiye but also in the World. There are many factors that support this claim. Education quality, campus facilities, academic publications, and student activities. Apart from the already-known facts, there are some aspects of METU that remain in the background.
As a METU graduate, if I were to briefly express these, I would like to state that METU is an autonomous republic first of all. A living space of its own both inside and outside Ankara. There are many students who have never even left the campus and are unaware of Ankara.
Moreover, everyone at METU calls each other 'hocam'. This is a stereotypical way of addressing people, regardless of whether they are students, teachers, public servants, or guests. Besides, did you know that caps are not thrown at graduation ceremonies? An ideological message lies behind this situation.
Graduates of METU know that education will not end even after graduation and will continue throughout life. This is a very significant message in terms of making education a mission and setting an example for future generations.
