Rory Gilmore Syndrome

The downfall of Rory Gilmore

The burn-out former gifted kid, The Downfall of Rory Gilmore.

We are getting closer and closer to fall, and fall means Gilmore Girls. The cozy vibes of this small town 'Stars Hollow' are waiting for you to be discovered for the millionth time, and I know it feels the same in every binge and every rewatch.

Today, I would looooove to tell you about the fall of Rory Gilmore; a cherished, protected, and overpraised girl who learns the truth of life in the hardest way possible.

We all know how the townspeople adore Rory as she is a mature kid who is known for her intelligence and kindness. She is the pitch-perfect A student and she has the most understanding, and caring mother ever existed, who is ready to do whatever it takes to give her the best as a single mother and is also not on good terms with her own family. Yet, for the sake of Rory's education in Chilton, she asks for her parents to loan her money in exchange for weekly chaotic dinners. Yes, this is where the series starts. But if you are reading this article, I assume that you are already familiar with every little episode including the whole plot. Oh yes, spoiler alert for the ones who clicked out of curiosity.

Rory Gilmore a.k.a the beauty with brains is the ultimate study inspo for girls and students and everyone wants to be like her growing up, but this desire leaves the room for hatred when the seasons progress and Rory realizes that this is a new world where there is no room for privileges.

She got used to being the smart one who performs perfectly at school, but when she becomes an adult and realizes that she cannot keep up with the same amount of pressure, the world declares war against Rory. This feeling of being stuck stems from Rory's comfort zone of privileges, created by her grandparents' wealth and her mother's constant work to give her the best opportunities.

Yet, Yale accepted no privileges. When she got accepted to Yale, she realized that now every single person is the same as Rory in terms of academic success and hard work. Yale was also the first place that Rory received criticism. Let alone a 'destructive' criticism, it was the first time in centuries that she had heard of criticism and being imperfect, and inadequate.

Stealing a yacth as a reaction to Huntzberger's criticism of her journaling carrier and being arrested and being forced to do community service... Does this sound like Rory Gilmore? I know, I also would not think of such an incident.

Yeah, the image above is one of the top ten pictures that you can hear. Why did you drop out of Yale, Rory?

Well, she dropped out of Yale because Huntzberger shattered her confidence to the point of her losing it all. At that point in her life, nobody, not even her grandparents could save her, because Yale meant no privileges, and journalism is a battlefield in which Rory is unarmed. She can't handle criticism well, because it is something that she has never confronted.

Yet, the downfall served for the good of her future where she returned to Yale after a period of not talking to her mother and staying with her grandparents until the point of bumping into Jess and hearing him yelling at her the most iconic lines of history: Why did you drop out of Yale?

She begins getting her life back on track after a period of time, and if you have seen Gilmore Girls: Year in the Life, her life is still filled with ups and downs, but also welcoming new surprises. The opportunities and setbacks are all about growth in adulthood, and Rory is now aware of her privileged life, and on top of this she is now taking advantage of the lessons she learned during her downfall.

Regardless, we love you, Rory. Genuinely and truly, we love you because of who you are and how you remind us of ourselves. But Rory, always remember that you have the most caring family in the industry. Have you ever seen or heard of Succession?
