''Tell Me Everything'' Hotline: Genuine Female Friendships

Navigating Authentic Connections

Building and maintaining a positive, productive friendship with a woman is one of the most important skills you can learn especially when you are a girl in your 20s. Maintaining a human connection with someone you have no romantic or sexual interest in is both essential and critical.

When it comes to girl talk, nothing is sacred. Are you wondering why your ex's new girlfriend isn't as cool as you? Your best friend will have a thorough analysis in ten minutes if you just text her (even though it's not entirely true you will still feel better). In these friendships, you can display all your flaws and vulnerabilities and know that you will be accepted without any judgments.

Don't get me wrong I appreciate all kinds of friendships, like Jane Austen, and I know that having people who have your back is something really motivating. But also I believe in the mystical bond of a genuine female friendship when there is no secret jealousy or competition. In a world where romantic love is often the main character, the idea that we can be each other's soulmates in friendship, resonates deeply with me, just like Charlotte York. Because these girls are the ones who see us at our best and worst and still love us without any individual gain.

They are the ones who wouldn't feel weirded out when you're in between a breakdown and texting on the group chat while also finding you a killer outfit for your first date. In a world that is filled with misogyny, it's essential to support and motivate each other when we feel like everyone is against us. Each of us is the other's chosen family. Each of us has a unique personality and tastes; we are not alike. Not all of us have the same goals in life and we all know it. But that's the good thing about adult friendships: you don't have to be the same.

I love how there's a universal unspoken connection, whether it's the annoyance of your period, getting ready for last-minute plans, or just spending time together in silence while scrolling through TikTok.

Fun fact: In Victorian English, there is a term that I adore: 'coffee sisters'. You guessed it right, it means the sisterhood that is shaped by shared experiences, and mutual support who also share a love for coffee. It's crazy to think how the girlhood has carried out its center value through all these years.
